According to the National Eating Disorders Collaboration, body image is defined as “a combination of the thoughts and feelings that you have about your body.” By definition, body image isn’t really about your body, but rather how you feel about your body. That’s where affirmations come in – to help change your thoughts and feelings about your body to improve body image.
Body image is complex, and I am absolutely not claiming that you can heal this relationship with with affirmations alone, but there is a place for them in this journey. Think about it- you weren’t born hating your body, you learned to. Affirmations can be a way to rewire your thoughts and create new and stronger pathways to more neutral/positive thoughts about your body, thus improving your body image overall.

These are some of my favorite affirmations for body image, ones I use with my clients and personally!
10 Positive Affirmations for Body Image
- My body is not a problem.
- There is nothing wrong with my body.
- There is nothing to fix and nothing to change.
- My body is good enough.
- My worth is not defined by my body size.
- I am so much more than my body.
- I am enough exactly as I am.
- I am lovable exactly as I am.
- My body is the least important thing about me.
- I am worthy of my own acceptance.
You can use these in a couple different ways:
- Write them on sticky notes and put them places you see often- mirror, refrigerator, phone case, computer, or any other high traffic area.
- Choose one and repeat it to yourself everyday until you believe it, then move through the list.
- Read this list daily to reinforce these beliefs.
You can also use a combination of these ideas! Please know that rewiring your brain isn’t overnight work, but day by day you can create stronger and more positive brain pathways. Body image work has it’s ups and downs, but even the tougher days are pushing you toward a better relationship with your body.
